Petta Fiesta - Yeehaw!

Find us at Petta Fiesta on July 4th - 6th where our gnarly ole chuck wagon will be popping up. There will be camp-fire cooking, food from the Wild Wild West, mexican breakfasts and delicious afternoon teas by the moat. We promise that you won't leave hungry.  Book your tickets here!

As part of Ely’s well established annual Eel Festival Weekend, we are introducing a new Food Festival on 4th and 5th May 2014 to be held on Palace Green under the gaze of Ely Cathedral.  The event will consist of a variety of artisan food traders, cookery demonstrations, food trade exhibitions and workshops.  If you would like to be part of this exciting new event please contact Tracey Harding, East Cambridgeshire District Council for more information  – This email address is being protected from spambots. And over at Greene King...

A late arrival got us both in for a fiver (you have to pay for this one...) but most of the food people were still there. What a proliferation of pickles! Lots of the same thing (of the chili jelly/home-made tomato ketchup variety) with one or two interesting exceptions - home made drinks and hot food, and lots of suppliers from Essex. But we love Abroad, and of course Essex gave us Jamie Oliver. We tried ice-cream, crisps, chocolate, strawberry and raspberry vodkas (although they weren't keen on Inspector X's horseradish vodka suggestion...) rhubarb and ginger cordial, fresh lemonade (so easy, so nice) and a shark kebab (very close to my Caribbean heart...shark kebabs...)

Shoreditch Festival - the Food

Here is the pizza-in-a-horsebox stall at Shoreditch Festival, although the biggest queue was outside the Caribbean food trailer. Was that because theirs is the most tasty? Was it because they had a sizzling jerk chicken barbecue on a very hot day, or was it because the girl who was supposed to be serving customers was texting all her friends? Anyway, we had the very nice beef stew and rice from Ghana. But while we're on the subject of street food - take a look at the Evening Standard list of 20 'guerilla grillers and breakaway bakers' here in the Capital.

Jamie's at it again...

...this time with a Food Revolution Day on 19th May. This is what he says ' It's a chance for people who love food to come together to share information, talents and resources; to pass on their knowledge and highlight the world’s food issues. All around the globe, people will work together to make a difference. Food Revolution Day is about connecting with your community through events at schools, restaurants, local businesses, dinner parties and farmers' markets. We want to inspire change in people’s food habits and to promote the mission for better food and education for everyone.'  Look here for an event near you, or if you're in Russia, there are some there too - shame - there aren't any in the Caribbean.

July 4th celebrations at RAF Feltwell

Yesterday we headed off to the community event held by USAF Lakenheath to celebrate July 4th. They sure know how to hold an event and cook for the thousands of visitors attending.  Not a commercial food outlet in sight, but an amazing selection of foods prepared to raise funds for the various organisations that exist on the base. We ate corn dogs, hot and spicy chicken wings with carrot and celery sticks, smoked brisket with fried pickles, kebab combo of chicken and beef kebabs with corn on the cob and funnel cake with cinnamon sugar. These guys pictured made us chicken fajitas with sour cream and tomato salsa.  It was a great family day out  with an amazing firework finale.  The food just kept on coming, ooh, and yes, there was Aspalls cider in the beer tent.
